Smoking is Murder Campaign

September 5, 2012

While taking a Creating Persuasive Campaign class last semester, I got really interested in researching advertisements and analyzing why those particular advertisements made me notice them.  On this website there are numerous posters for anti-smoking campaigns.  The pair of posters that stuck in my mind the most are the two above showing a child suffocating in a plastic bag which is made from second hand smoke.  The message has shock value and causes people to think about others who do not have a choice but to breathe in the smoke that they are producing, such as children, pets, friends in their car, etc.  This advertisement was made for the CONAC, Chilean Corporation Against Cancer under the creative direction of Rodrigo Gomez.  The Art Director and Illustrator was Paulino Caffarena.  She has made other ads for BMW and BIC, but I could not find any others for a cause.  The tagline for the anti-smoking campaign was “Smoking isn’t just suicide. It’s murder. Secondhand tobacco smoke causes many of the same diseases as direct smoking.”  This quote was found in the article Smoking is Murder! – Tobacco & Marijuana –  For more interesting visuals, visit the first site mentioned above-
